2020 Photography Fun

Every year the Judge's Choice Winner of our Photography Contest has the honour of being the visual ambassador of our Society in our annual literature.

2020 has presented some challenges for the Orono Horticultural Society to share the word of our Photography Contest. So via our newest media venture - our very own web page - here are our 2020 Competition Categories:

1. "Woodland Wonders" - I am always partial to funghi photos because it has the word 'fun' in it. But this topic has lots of wonderful options.

2. "After The Rain" - Now I had to go through a lot of pictures to find one for this category so make sure to get out there after those rainfalls or dewy occasions to capture those moments.

3. "Awesome Blossoms" - now this was a super easy topic to find pictures for.

4. "Patterns" - this took a little more thinking on my part and I am sure you will interpret this category differently but equally as beautiful. Competitors are allowed to enter two (2) 4"x6" photos in each category (just in case you can't just decide on one!).

5. "Singled Out" (1 bloom) - the nice thing about our contest is that both film and digital photos are allowed. That assists in getting that one bloom to be front and center in the photo. The middle photo of a single red rose was a Judge's Choice Winner.

6. "Pollinators" - this is all about the birds and the bees and the butterflies ...

7. "Fall Fantasy" - there is so much scope for this category.

8. "Frozen" - this class is also up to the imagination of the photographer. It just needs to include natural and horticultural subjects.

9. "100 Years and Still Growing" - what a momentous occasion 2021 will be celebrating 100 years of the Orono Horticultural Society. Here is a flash from the past (plus check out our picture album on this website called '90th Anniversary Memories') ...

10. "Photographer's Choice" - the category is where you get to pick the topic. Just a reminder that photos must be taken in 2019 or 2020.

All of the photos that I have posted are ones that I had wanted to show in the Photography Contests from previous years (decades even!!).

Here are a few more Judge's Choice Winners:

So keep that camera and cell phone handy!!! The more pictures that you take, the greater the chance you will capture that 'one' that speaks to the topic at hand and catches that moment forever.
